Gum Paste Christmas Roses

Christmas roses aren’t really roses as you and I think of them – at least just by looking at them.  They’re constructed more like dogwoods than roses when it comes to gum paste – which is a great time saver.  Considering how much time you can really spend on gum paste flowers it’s important to know quick flowers you can make to help fill out your bouquet or to make a simple arrangement to help jazz up your cake decorating.

That’s not to say that you can’t go the extra step and make these flowers look even more complex/life-like.  I found the picture on the right on Google.  As you can see the petal is very thin and veined and the center is more complex.  Our design is probably more like a very simple buttercup… well either way the construction would still be similar.  The important point to draw from this episode is that gum paste flowers don’t have to be complicated or take a long time.  You can make a ton of these flowers in no time at all and you can forgo most of your supplies allowing you quick set-up and even quicker clean up.

Anyway, enjoy the video – it’s a short one this time – and make sure to watch the Strawberry Spiral Cake episode.  It’s a good one!  Plus you get to see how the flowers look like on a cake.

Why didn’t you lay your 5th petal under neath your first? the same as frangipanis….but thanks….

    • That’s a good point – you can do that to give your flowers a different look, perhaps the fifth petal looks a little out of place, but at the time I wasn’t even thinking about that. It’s good to hear how other people assemble their flowers. Thanks for sharing!
