Episode 26-1 – Gum Paste Callillies

Gum Paste Callillies

This is a fairly short episode since I’m only making on flower in this episode.  This is another example of wired gum paste flowers to be used on a cake.  In this cake I ended up making a bouquet to be laid against the cake instead of stuck inside of the cake.  This is a little more difficult than it sounds for two reasons.  For one, if the wires are slightly bent they won’t line up against each other nicely.  Second, unlike real flowers, gum paste is hard and so they don’t give when laid on top of each other so they can push against each other.  Both of which I found out while making this episode.  After a few tweaks on the floral wire and repositioning the flowers I got the bouquet how I wanted it.

I did some searching on Google and I found the products I use online.  I couldn’t find the official crystal colors llc website but I did find a supplier.  This supplier provides the powdered food coloring for dusting gum paste flowersCK products has a website where you can buy their pearl dust directly.  Of course, if you have a local cake decorating shop you should support them!  I’m just providing these as examples so you can see what I’m using in case you’re just starting out.

Here is the video!  Enjoy and thanks for watching!
