Apple Pie with Streusel Topping
Here’s another great recipe for the holidays – apple pie! Nothing quite rounds off a filling Thanksgiving meal than a warm slice of apple pie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Hopefully this is the apple pie that lands on your table!
This recipe I actually got when I was working at the resort. The recipe I got from school was good but it was awfully dull. Apple pie is apple pie after all – every year we would have it at Thanksgiving along with Shoofly Pie and Pumpkin Mousse Pie. This pie was different though because it had a hints of lemon and orange to change things up. This fun citrus twist can be altered to your taste – if you want a stronger citrus taste add more zest and juice, and you can omit it completely if you’d like though I don’t recommend doing that.
As I mention in the video the pie dough used to make the pie crust in this episode was the same as I had made before. You can see the basic pie dough blog post here or I’ll save you the trouble and post the video here:
Also as I mention in the video the streusel topping is a very flexible topping and can be used on a variety of baked goods. The two most common ones, other than pies, are muffins and fruit crisps. The best muffins to use it with are fruit muffins like berry. Fruit crisps are nearly identical to fruit cobblers except instead of biscuit dough on top you use the streusel topping.
Enjoy the videos below and here are the recipes for Apple Pie and the Streusel Topping. Thanks for watching! P.S. The apple pie recipe has the weight of the apples AFTER they have been peeled and diced. This is because apple vary in weight prior to dicing. However, this is good just in case you have to use frozen pre-cut apples.
